The brainchild of Leicestershire County Council's Corporate Parenting Team and the Children in Care Council, thebeaconleics.com aims to provide children in care with the information they need about all aspects of being in care, as well as acting as a communication channel allowing them to have their say, get involved and have some fun along the way.
Students from Loughborough University worked with members of the Children in Care Council to come up with some initial design concepts which Cuttlefish then worked up into a responsive design for the site, built using a modified version of our cPortals CMS. As you'd expect, the majority of the features are only available to the young people for whom the site was built, but you can get a flavour from the launch video on the site, also created by the students for the spectacular launch party they laid on – nice work guys!
This project has been yet another fabulous one to work on, with a demonstrable positive effect in our local community which all involved can be proud of. There are already plenty of ideas from the team which are being refined for updates later in the year so we're looking forward to this one getting bigger and better!
